LSR Division 3 Home Page

Dear LSR Div 3 Members,

My name is Jerry Hoverson, MMR and I am the Division 3 Director. I wanted to take a moment to say hello and pass on some things that we will be starting in Division 3. First, I’d like to announce the return of the monthly Division 3 meeting. I have obtained space at the Nicholson Memorial Library. It is in downtown Garland at 625 Austin Street.  (Click here for a map).  We will be meeting at the library from 10:00 to 1:00 the 3rd Saturday of each month. So mark your calendars for these meetings.  News and general information will be updated on the Division 3 News page.

What are the meetings about? Glad you asked. Other than in the spring as we get ready for the Division 3 Mini-Meet there isn’t much business to discuss. So, for most of these meetings I’m hoping to arrange for a clinic or two as well as the ‘Launch into the Achievement Program’. Here we will talk about scratchbuilding projects or wiring projects or whatever YOU want to work on. This is to help anybody interested to start on the path to becoming a Master Model Railroader. Even if you aren’t interested in the AP, you can learn some very helpful tips and tricks to improve your modeling. This is for the beginner as well as the ‘seasoned’ modeler.

I would also like to mention the Modeler’s Challenge. The Challenge is where we pick a theme for a project and give everybody a certain amount of time to build the models. Last  years Modeler's Challenge is to build a model in any scale, of any train related subject AND the model has to mount on the confines of 1 square foot.  This brought in some really nice models and one of our members used his to enter in the LSR Contest in San Antonio and not only won 1st Place for his category but BOTH Best Of Show awards.  We will be picking a subject for next year's Challenge during the January meeting.  Be thinking of a subject and let me know what it is.

To give you an idea of what kind of clinics we are holding.  Please see the Beginning Scratchbuilding Clinic we held in 2006.  We have at least 1 clinic each month that is taught by some of the best modelers in the area...and a few by yours truly.

I’ve heard several people mention “What am I getting out of being a member of the NMRA & the LSR?”  Here’s your chance to get something back.  A famous comedian once said, “Life is like a sewer…what you get out of it depends on what you put into it.” The NMRA is very much the same way.  From those that I’ve met, the ones that get the most out of it are the one’s putting the most into it.  Here’s your chance to start putting something into LSR, the NMRA and ultimately, your hobby.

If you ever have any questions please feel free to call or email me.  I’d be more than happy to help you in anyway that I can.

I look forward to seeing you at the next Division 3 meeting.

Jerry Hoverson, MMR
