Launch Into the Achievement Program

Welcome to the "Launch Into the Achievement Program"

In the first step in the program we will learn the anatomy of a flat car.  We will go over how the prototypes were built and how we do for our models.  You will learn all the terminology for the various car parts and how they all work together.

Here comes the fun part...while part one takes place at the August 16th meeting, at the meeting on September 20th we will start building cars.  The hand out available for download by clicking here or available at the August clinic will have the terms and a parts list for you to take to the train shop to buy the parts you will need to get started.

This class is very easy and can be done by any modeler at any skill level.  I am also planning to organize the room so that we can get people at tables together with other modelers at a similar skill level.  That way you can work together to learn and nobody feels intimidated.

The Launch Into the Achievement Program is hosted by Division 3 and the classes will be taught by Duane Richardson, MMR.  Duane will be the first one to tell you that, "You don't have to be an Master Modeler to build a flat car.  In fact, I started there myself".

From these basic skills you can learn to build a car that will unique to your railroad and give you the skills to proceed to other types of cars.  Remember, a gondola is just a flat car with sides and a box car is just a flat car with tall sides and a roof.  So plan to join us in August for the beginning of the program and then pack your toolbox for Septembers meeting.
